A Mumbai Suburb That Has Transformed!

Goregaon - The Garden City

Mumbai has always been a city of dreams, a big draw for people from across the country. As the city flourished and grew over the years, attracting more and more people, the island city began to run out of space to accommodate all its residents. But rather than turning people away, Mumbai began to expand to its suburbs. From western to eastern and northern, suburbs evolved over the years to fit the needs of a growing population. One such suburb on the western corridor is Goregaon, for long considered a laidback locality, but now bustling with life.

Evolution of Goregaon

Prior to the late ‘70s, Goregaon was sparsely populated, its natural beauty notwithstanding. But the housing boom of the 1980s saw a huge expansion here in terms of density of population and new projects. Newer areas like Dindoshi, Gokuldham, and Yashodham etc. quickly grew into large hubs. With the addition of Oberoi Garden City, the most comprehensive and holistic living concept from Oberoi Realty, Goregaon witnessed a dramatic change in lifestyle. Oberoi Garden City transformed a sleepy suburb into the most sought-after locale in the western suburbs. The price of real estate in Mumbai is always a bone of contention for home buyers; yet Goregaon, till today, offers a better value for money compared to the real estate prices in the rest of Mumbai.

Connecting Lives

The significance of this suburb is mainly due to its ease of connectivity. It is a prominent railway station on the Western Suburban Railway Line and is well connected to the rest of Mumbai via the Western Express Highway and the Link Road. It is situated close to the international and domestic airports as well. A new flyover that connects Goregaon West and East has added to the ease in connectivity. This ease of access, coupled with the economical rental and property prices, led to many commercial headquarters shifting to this area, thus getting more footfalls to Goregaon, one of the greenest suburbs of Mumbai. Once people started coming here, the serene and quiet locales and a visibly better quality of life attracted more home buyers. Premium commercial outlets, international schools and corporate hospitals in the vicinity have added to the value of Goregaon, and it has quickly become one of the fastest growing locations in Mumbai. This noticeable shift has led to Goregaon becoming an integral part of any developmental plan of the city; inclusion in the phase II of the Mumbai suburban metro line, for example.

The Colour Green

Goregaon is home to the green lungs of Mumbai – Aarey greens, giving this suburb a thick and lush green blanket that is a treat for sore eyes. These greens are home to an assortment of farms, nurseries, gardens and picnic spots. As if that is not enough, there is also the Conservation Education Centre managed by the Bombay Natural History Society that is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

The Fun Quotient

Goregaon is closer to the cleaner beaches of Mumbai, like Aksa and Manori. For the movie buffs, it is a must-visit suburb, being home to two famous film studios that churn out Bollywood blockbusters, Filmistan and Film City. Huge shopping malls with play zones and multiplexes, designer boutiques, premium schools, a world-class hotel and fine-dining restaurants – Goregaon is a city within a city. Those who live and work here hardly ever feel the need to step out of the suburb, creating a sense of autonomy and independence not seen in too many localities in Mumbai. There is a certain amount of oomph and spiritedness in the city of Mumbai that is reflected in Goregaon as well. People from various lifestyles live in harmony and unity. They participate in festivals of different communities and religions equally. The oneness amongst people here is a much-required lesson in goodwill that seems to be the need of the hour in today’s time.
